Thousands of Ahmadiyya Muslims Become National Blood Donation Standby Volunteers
Responding to the blood donor stock crisis, the National Amir of the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Jama'at, H. Abdul Basit called on all members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to meet the criteria to become 'National Blood Donation Standby Volunteers'.
The call was in an effort to help people in need by continuing to follow the Covid-19 Health Protocol and PSBB established by the government.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim community has been a reliable partner of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in the routine national blood donor program, through its social organization wing Humanity First Indonesia.
"In the month of Ramadan, targeting 1,000 blood bags can be donated through PMI," Abdul said through his statement.
Ahmadiyya itself so far has around 15,000 thousand regular blood donors who are members of the Give Blood Community and are spread in 50 cities in Indonesia.
Head of DKI Jakarta PMI Blood Donation Transfusion Salimar Salim said, the Covid-19 pandemic greatly affected the PMI blood stock in various cities, moreover entering the month of Ramadan the blood stock was reduced by more than 50 percent.
"Because people are afraid of being infected by the virus, while the average needs for blood bags in Jakarta, for example, reaches 700 bags per day," Salim said.
While other areas such as Surabaya, Bandung, Tangerang also experienced the same thing experienced by DKI Jakarta PMI.
The Chairperson of the Blood Donation Unit for PMI Central Board Linda Lukitasari Waseso admitted that the blood stock crisis occurred in the Covid-19 pandemic areas such as DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java.
Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Community, Yendra Budiana added, in addition to the Ramadan Blood Donation Program, the Executive Board of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has released various programs.
Starting from basic food assistance, the provision of thousands of free masks, and direct economic assistance to 1,885 households.
"As well as continuing to encourage followers of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community to be the best social examples of benefit to others as a way of interpreting Ramadan worship," said Yendra.
Separately, the Chairperson of Central Java FKUB, KH Drs Taslim Syahlan Msi said, this Ramadan must be a momentum to strengthen the solidarity of fellow Muslims.
"We must immediately end the friction between Muslim groups. Ramadan is a means of honing individual piety and social piety, "he said.
According to him, the blood donor activity carried out by the Ahmadiyya Community is actually proof that humanitarian service is a noble task in religion.
"This is also what I may call as proof of social piety. In the context of da'wah such a thing is very strategic. Because it is not limited to missionary propaganda. But more preaching bil-things at once the implementation of "khairunnas anfa’uhum linnas". It's a concrete and extraordinary expression of diversity, "he explained.
