Understanding of Zakat, Infaq, and Alms Needs to Know During Ramadan
Are you still difficult to distinguish the notions of zakat, infaq, and alms? All three look similar, but not the same. Similar because all in principle are equally issued something that we have to spend in the way of Allah or give to others so that it becomes more useful. Not the same because each has different rules. Come on, see the explanation more deeply.
Understanding zakat
Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam so this practice is mandatory. Every Muslim is obliged to pay zakat and distribute it to 8 groups of people who are entitled to receive zakat. There are 2 kinds of alms, namely alms fitrah and alms alms.
Zakat fitrah is a type of zakat that is fulfilled during the month of Ramadhan until before Idul Fitri. The meaning is more as self-cleaning. If issued after the Eid prayer, it can no longer be considered as zakat fitrah, but turns into a reward for alms.
In Indonesia, the zakat regulated by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is equivalent to 2.5 kg of rice. This amount may be exceeded but may not be reduced. You can fulfill the obligation to pay zakat fitrah at the nearest mosques.
Whereas zakat maal is also called zakat treasure. Its meaning as a treasure cleaner. Zakat is also obligatory to be fulfilled, but there is a limit / size (Nisab). It becomes obligatory for anyone whose wealth has reached Nisab (the minimum limit of assets that must be issued zakat).
The assets that must be tithed are not only assets in the form of deposits of money, but also gold, livestock, valuables such as gold and agricultural products. Each type of property has a different Nisab. For example, for assets in the form of savings, the Nisab is equivalent to 8.5 kg of gold and the property has been settled for 1 year (Hijri year count).
Understanding Infaq and Alms
If the charity is the rules of Nisab, infaq and alms do not know Nisab. If the group that is entitled to receive zakat is regulated in the AL Quran, infaq and alms are freer. May be given to anyone, including parents, relatives, orphans, or for the mosque. Infaq and alms is the sunnah. Reward if done, but not sinful if left out.
Infaq is alms issued in the form of material, while alms can be in the form of nonmaterial. In a hadith it is even said, if you are not able to give alms with wealth, remembrance, practice amar ma'ruf nahi munkar, even a smile enters alms.
Although not mandatory, giving and giving is highly recommended, especially in the month of Ramadan. Because in this month, the practice of the sunnah will be calculated doubled by Allah.
So, you already understand, understanding zakat, infaq, and alms? In this glorious month, if you have paid alms and there is still excess wealth, it would be nice if you also set aside a little more for infaq or alms. Sharing won't make you lack because God has promised to return it more than you spend!
