Candidate Vice President Biden Resigns to Give Black Candidate Space
Senator Amy Klobuchar decided to step down from the selection process for the vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden. Quoted from Reuters, the former American Presidential candidate felt Joe Biden was more suitable to be accompanied by a female vice president from the black community or other races.
"In my opinion this is the right moment for colored women to get a ticket as American vice president. There are many talented women out there, "Klobuchar was quoted as saying by Reuters on Friday, June 19, 2020.
As is known, Joe Biden will only face the incumbent Donald Trump at the US Presidential Election next November. However, he has been urged to immediately determine the candidate for vice president. Some of his supporters suggested Biden to appoint black women as his accomplices later. Biden has promised to appoint a female figure as vice president.
The proposal cannot be separated from the current American situation. As a result of the case of George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks, who were killed by the police, the problem of racism in America was in the spotlight. Various anti-racism and anti-violence police movements have arisen across America, demanding that the matter be resolved immediately.
Klobuchar, in track record, is actually part of the problem. Quoted from Reuters, Klobuchar did not contribute much to suppress racism and violence by the police when he became a prosecutor for the Minnesota area. Minnesota, please note, is the place where George Floyd died.
Klobuchar continued that he had met Biden to submit his resignation. Biden accepted the resignation, but asked Klobuchar to continue supporting him against Trump.
"If you want to cure the problem in this country, this method (the appointment of vice-president from the community of colored women) is the best way," he said about the search for vice president for Biden.
