Muslim Americans Are More Preferred to Choose Joe Biden as President

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), America's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, released the results of its poll for the presidential election among Muslim voters 2020. Of the 84 percent who voted, 69 percent voted for former vice president Joe Biden and 17 percent for President Donald Trump. "CAIR would like to thank the more than one million Muslim American voters who broke records in this electoral cycle.

The significant ability of the Muslim community to influence the outcome of various elections across the country including the presidential election has been recognized nationally by both candidates and the media," said the Director. CAIR National Executive Nihad Awad in a release on his website, Tuesday (3/11/2020).

CAIR Director of Government Affairs Robert S. McCaw also said the role of Muslim voices was one of the voices being reckoned with today in the US. "Now is the time to hold our selected politicians accountable to ensure the civil and religious rights of all Americans are upheld and protected," he said.

However, President-elect Donald Trump received four percent more support in 2020 compared to the 2016 election which received 13 percent of the Muslim vote. The CAIR poll was conducted among more than 844 registered Muslim voter households from across the country and was conducted using an automated call survey provider.

This independent survey only asks two questions namely, did you vote in the presidential election? and which presidential candidate did you vote for? The CAIR database on Muslim voters was developed by matching state records of registered voters with an extensive list of some 45,000 traditional Muslim first and last names. In compiling this list, common names that are prevalent among Muslims across the majority Muslim ethnic groups in the world are identified and verified by qualified members of this ethnic group.

Although this is the largest compiled list to date, this pool of Muslim voters does not include Muslims with uncommon names or those without traditional Muslim names. Also excluded are Muslims with names that are common in other communities (such as Sarah or Adam). CAIR was founded in 1994. Its mission is to increase understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower Muslim Americans.
