These 4 groups of people you may not understand too well
The group of people who are entitled to receive zakat has been mentioned by Allah SWT in the Letter At-Taubah verse 60. As Muslims who already have the ability to perform zakat, to fulfill the 4th Pillar of Islam is an obligation. Among the 8 classes of people who are entitled to receive zakat, you may not understand these 4 groups. Who are they?
1. Gharim or Gharimin
Gharim or gharimin are people who are in debt. However, there are only 2 types of gharim that are entitled to be recipients of zakat that we give, namely:
Gharim limaslahati nafsihi, is a group of people who are in debt for their own needs.
Gharim li ishlâhi dzatil bain, is a group of people who are in debt because they reconcile humans, qabilah or tribes.
While those who are indebted for immoral purposes (such as gambling and drunk) and for the sake of starting a business and then going bankrupt, are not people who are entitled to receive zakat.
2. Convert
Converts also include people who are entitled to receive zakat. Converts are people who have just converted to Islam. Zakat given to converts is to support the strengthening of their faith and piety in converting to Islam. Zakat given to converts also has a social role, namely to strengthen the brotherhood of fellow Muslims.
3. Fisabilillah
Understanding Fisabilillah are people or organizations that have the main activity to fight for the path of God in spreading Islam. Zakat for this group is distributed in the interests of muhajidin, religious preachers or religious leaders, da'wah centers, and mosque construction projects.
4. Ibn Sabil
Travelers or people on long trips who run out of supplies and expenses are called Ibn Sabil. The depletion of costs experienced by Ibn Sabil made it difficult to survive, unable to continue the journey or return to his homeland. These Ibn Sabil included workers and students who were in a foreign country for a good cause. Even though in his homeland he is a rich man, but if he runs out of expenses in a foreign country, he still has the right to receive Zakat.
Well, you are more familiar, right, with 4 groups of people who are entitled to receive zakat above? Make this knowledge to be more sincere in the intention to issue our zakat to those who are in need. Because in addition to having a great reward, paying zakat also adds to our faith and strengthens our relationship with fellow Muslims.
