Story of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jailani when Tempted by Satan

In his memoir, Guru People from Pesantren (2001: 41), KH Saifuddin Zuhri recounts the recitation that was performed by a kiai named Kiai Akhmad Syatibi. The recitation material comes from the book Manaqib Syekh Abdul Qadir Jailani.

Story of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jailani when Tempted by Satan

In the book, Kiai Akhmad Syatibi tells that once upon a time Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jailani was converting to Allah SWT. Suddenly the place around him gave off a very dazzling light. From the light came a voice calling his name: "O Abdul Qadir, I am your God, I have come to you to declare that now I have legalized everything that I had forbidden!"

Hearing this, Sheikh Abdul Qadir shouted and shouted: "Ikhsa" Ya Lien! "You bastard devil, get out of my face." Instantly the dazzling light went out.

A groaning voice came, he said: forgive me, O Shaykh, you have avoided my temptation. I purposely seduce people who are experts in tariqah but are ignorant without knowledge. But you have passed from my temptation because you already have knowledge.

When it was stated why Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jailani knew that it was the voice of Satan, he answered: "His own words, 'I have legalized everything that was forbidden." That is the light of the words of Satan. Because things that have been forbidden by Allah SWT cannot be made lawful! Allah cannot possibly order His servants to do things that have been forbidden.

But again the devil did not give up. He kept trying to deceive and get Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jailani down. Even though he failed with the first trick, he still carried out the next trick. The devil tried to turn Sheikh Abdul Qadir into an arrogant and proud person.

Satan then said to him, "O Abdul Qadir, you have been saved from me because of your knowledge by the decrees of your Lord and because of your expertise in the laws of your conditions." (Sufism expert)! " But once again, Shaykh Abdul Qadir failed to be deceived by the devil, he replied, "Virtue and Grace belong only to my Lord." He remains tawadhu 'and humble. He does not at all feel that the success of defeating Satan is because of him, but because of Allah's grace and help, so that praise belongs only to Allah alone.
