Message of the Dalai Lama "The problem of racism occurs because the perpetrators do not have compassion"
For two days, 29-30 May 2020, His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave Abhiseka / Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara initiation from his residence in Daramsala, India.
The initiation was given online to his followers in various countries around the world through his YouTube account, Facebook and the Dalailama.com page. Recorded at least more than 15 thousand pairs of eyes watched, and that was recorded just from the Dalai Lama Facebook alone.
On the first day, before giving blessings, the Dalai Lama also gave many messages and dharma. One of them, he highlighted the behavior of racism that occurred in the United States (US) recently.
The Dalai Lama claimed to have learned from the news that in the US there were black citizens [George Floyd] who were killed because they choked by the police knee. The problem of racism, according to him, is due to the lack of compassion by the perpetrators.
"Basically, we as living beings, our nature is compassion. Even small insects, "the Dalai Lama said in Tibetan translated into English.
He explained, if observed, the insect mother cared for her children with compassion. Therefore, if humans can not hurt one another and love one another, a world full of peace and fear will emerge.
Without compassion or karuna, according to him jealousy, arrogance, arrogance will develop. This will hinder someone's steps to be happy.
"Compassion is very crucial, very crucial for our survival," he stressed.
The Dalai Lama continues, the more compassion a person has, the happier he will be. But the more someone has a sense of competition, his life will be further from happiness.
Therefore, he invites his viewers to develop Bodhicitta, an inner attitude to attach importance to other beings, hoping that other beings will be happy and achieve liberation.
"It's important to have a kind heart, or a warm heart," he said.
The Dalai Lama also invites his followers not only to develop and base themselves on intellect alone, but also to balance it with a warm heart, a kind heart.
And one of the methods to develop compassion according to him is reciting the Avalokiteshvara six-syllable mantra, which is OM MA NI PAD ME HUM.
"The main purpose of the Avalokiteshvara initiation is to have a kind heart. Whether you are Buddhist or not is not important, "he said.
